Statement from Ski Racing Australia

The Board of Ski Racing Australia is deeply saddened by the passing today of Sydney ski racer, Dale Ashton as a result of injuries sustained in Robe, South Australia during a qualifying race for the World Ski Racing Championships.

Ski Racing Australia extends its deepest sympathy to Dale’s family,  extended family and friends and ask their privacy be respected at this difficult time.

Dale, 30, was a long-time competitor in the sport and was competing in the open men’s event on Saturday February 23, when the boat he was an observer in was involved in an incident with another boat. The driver of the boat, Ben Hackett, was also injured and remains in hospital.

Ski Racing Australia thanks Ambulance and Police for their prompt action in attending to Dale and Ben and will continue to work with authorities as they investigate the incident.

The organisation is offering counselling to all members affected by this incident and encourages members to contact the Ski Racing Australia office if they require further support.

As the incident is currently under police investigation, Ski Racing Australia will not be making any further comment at this time.
