UPDATE RE SOCIAL SKI FINS – THRU BOLTS NOT MANDATORY YET; TESTING ONGOING
Hello SRA Members,
The SRA Safety Committee again acknowledge the concerns from a number of members regarding the addition of an M5 thru-bolt to the middle holes of social class skis.
The SRA SC is continuing to liaise with social class ski manufacturers and can confirm that we are testing alternative methods/designs to ensure that we can find a balanced solution that meets the following requirements:
- The fins in our social class skis are retained in the ski to a level that is very similar to the fin in a rail, and
- Is a method/design that is able to be reasonably scrutineered, and
- Is a method/design that does not compromise the integrity or performance of your ski, and
- Is a method/design that still permits a damaged fin to be removed and replaced, and
- That the method/design is not an excessive cost or inconvenience to members.
SRA acknowledges that this process has not been as smooth as we would have liked. Please be mindful that we are all volunteers and that ultimately we must determine a solution that is both acceptable and justifiable to NSW Maritime.
For the moment social class skis will still need to meet the scrutineering requirements put in place prior to the Mildura 100.
Thanks for your patience.
